Overview
“When you start an Open Orchestras programme, you will feel like you are on the biggest learning curve! There have been many memorable moments from our first year, but I think the most memorable are the magical ones when the participants’ music making takes you by surprise. The impacts are wider than the music making.” Helen Temple, area leader of music development, Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership

Training and mentoring
Open Orchestras provides year-round support, enabling your workforce to hone their skills, develop new creative approaches and measure their impact. Our digital training covers everything you need to succeed. For anyone new to Open Orchestras, first-year training sessions are carefully planned to give you the knowledge and support you need at the right time, as you progressively build your orchestra. We also run a yearly programme of Continuing Professional Development, open to new and existing staff – a great opportunities to learn and network!
Every new orchestra gets two one-hour online mentoring sessions in their first year of running (this is made possible through fundraising by Open Up Music, the charity behind Open Orchestras). It’s fantastic support for you as you establish your brand new ensemble. In person mentoring sessions are also available.
Evaluation
Designed in partnership with Special Schools and Music Education Hubs, the Open Orchestras Evaluation Framework provides everything you need to measure effectiveness and demonstrate your impact. And best of all, we process the evaluation data for you, so you can report back to your stakeholders and promote your achievements.
